Vacations brings a lot of fun things to buy: sunglasses, colorful resort fashion, earrings and one that is not so fun for everyone: swimsuits.

Why? Because finding a swimsuit that does not make you look and feel bulgy, but looks good on Instagram is a daunting task. Besides, you can’t afford to take out a second mortgage to buy the swimsuit either. We have all been there, in the dressing room at the swimsuit store with the horrific fluorescent lighting and small fitting rooms. Who looks good in there? I suggest to buy online and try swimsuits at home at your own pace and comfort zone. You will see that swimsuits start to look alo better!

1. Use a measuring tape

Each brand is different when it comes to size, so take the time to measure yourself correctly. Many vendors offer measurements in centimeters, others in inches so be sure to measure the correct way.  If you do not have a measuring tape with both cm and inches, you may want to invest in one. If you do not have a measuring tape at all, or handy at the time you need to measure, use a string and then cut the string to the measurement. Later you can measure the string with a ruler.

2. Size up

Swimsuits are usually a bit small to allow stretching. If you want the swimsuit to be sexy, take your regular size that you measured. If you want some room to “grow” ;) take a size larger. If the swimsuit is a tie closure you can always adjust and tighten as needed. Beware of the “no return” policy that may be in effect during a women bikini sale. Many stores will not allow you to return a purchase from a sale event.

3. Mix and match

Buying separates is a great new phenomenon. Not all women have the same size proportions at the bottom and top. You may find a perfect ensemble, but maybe the bottom is perfect but the top is way too small. This is why many stores are now offering separate top & bottom purchases so you can mix and match sizes and sometimes even styles. Another trick is to buy one size swim suits. They adjust  alot and are easy to fit.
